Panasonic 50G10 overscan and 1:1 pixel mapping

I've just got a new Panasonic 50G10. I was originally looking at the 50V10 and also tempted to try and track down a Pioneer 5090, but both very scarce and after looking hard at the G10, I realised I shouldn't be trying to spend any more.

I've just calibrated it using a DVE blu-ray calibration disc and I'm really happy with the picture quality. I just have a question about 'overscan'. For optimum picture quality with 1080p material I want to ensure that the screen is displaying it pixel for pixel so that there is no scaling at all. Should I have overscan turned off to achieve this, or on? Logic suggests 'off' to me, as surely with it on, the TV is going to be scaling the picture to slightly larger than it needs to be so that the edges are off the edge of the screen?

you dont have to worry about that , when the tv is showing hd , overscan is autmatically set to off , great tv , enjoy ..

Just to add to that point, you should leave the overscan off at all times for best picture quality on freeview/freesat broadcasts. The only time I have found it a useful feature is when watching BBC iplayer via my PS3 (as the iplayer picture doesn't quite fill the whole screen).

Overscan set to off for pixel to pixel.

However when viewing on my SKY+HD it does not detect a difference between SD and HD, as its all output at 1080i, so does not toggle this.
So some SD channels do show a blue bar down either side.
I have to manually toggle this or as I have a 42V10 I can use THX which has overscan disabled.

I have overscan on for sd viewing, as it does impove the picture quality for me. I had some picture noise when it was left off. Don't need it for HD/blu ray/DVD etc

THX mode automatically has overscan enabled. Pause a blu ray/dvd and toggle between THX and a different mode and you'll see that on THX mode, you lose a little bit of the picture. (I think - I tried this about 6 months ago, but if I recall correctly, that's what I noticed)

If you try it, let me know if your THX also zooms in a little.
