I have the 42v10 from the pansonics 09 viera plasma range.
My amp is an onkyo 606 and by Blu Ray is a BD-30.

On arrival of my new plasma I hooked it to up to the 606 to play my first blu ray a full hd 1080p 24ps.
To my surprise the blu ray failed to hdmi handshake with the v10 so no picture, just static and black screen as it tried to sync the hdmi.

I contacted sevenoaks hifi whom I purchased the BD-30 and onkyo 606 in november last year.
So here is the news for some reason the onkyo amps will find it difficult to handshake with the current viera range.
Onkyo have been testing this with sevenoaks since I raised the issue.
Onkyo has now recognised that this issue impacts the 606 and 607 and possibly more amps.
This is also not fixed by any current firmware.

So it would appear that Panasonic have changed something in the HDMI handshaking that is upsetting Onkyo amps when they are passing a 1080p signal.
If I ouptut at 1808i everything works as expected.

I have been very impressed by how sevenoaks hifi (on my behalf) and onkyo have wasted no time in verifying that there is an issue.

I now await for onko to come up with an answer.
Having said all this using viera link does present me with a way to get the handshake working on 1080p after short delay the handshake will work.

I have a 605 and a BD35 and they work beautifully together - no issues at all. I'm surprised that these newer Onkyo amps have these issues.

The issue is only apparent if the TV is a panasonic 09 viera.

On my previous panasonic 720p plasma, this all worked fine although the BD-30 was not outputting at 1080p 24p.
The issue only shows if outputting 1080p though the onkyo 606/607 to the plasma.

It would appear that panasonic have changed something in the hdmi handshaking with 1080p in the current 09 viera plasmas that causes the issue with the onkyo amps.

This fault has been recreated on the v10 and G10 plasmas.
The tv just does not sync with the 1080p signal.
Repeated static and black screen while the tv tries to handshake.
It will sync with a 1080i signal.

Hi all,

Same problem here : the tv doesn't recocgnise the 1080p signal from my onkyo 706 and ps3.

Please do something pana

I updated the firmware on my P42V10 this morning from 2.003 to 2.011 and this now appears to have fixed things for me.

So I already had a workround with viera link that enabled 1080p to be recognised after a some delay.
With veria link now disabled things now seem to hookup maybe even quicker than with the workround.
My Sky+HD is recognised as 1080i instantly and the blu-ray does take a few seconds longer than this t but will be recognised as 1080p 24p.

So from my BD-30, blu-ray and DVD are both recognised as 1080p via the Onkyo 606.

However as panasonic and onkyo are investigating this surely they would know if an existing firmware update fixed this issue?
On another forum a user said they got this firmware on the 13/07/09 so it was available earlier this month.

So I hope I am not being a bit premature but fingers crossed.
