Hello there,

I'm looking to ditch my Samsung 32 inch LCD for one of the above. I had pretty much made my mind up on the Panasonic until the awards were announced and the Sony wiining best budget 40-42inch TV seemingly threw a spanner into my works. Both are available at very similar price (£709 v £699 both with 3 yr guarantee from Argos) so nothing between them there.

The Sony has a higher contrast but the Pana is 100hz as opposed to Sony's 50hz. If it assists, I'll be using it to watch Sky HD and HD-DVD and I'm awaiting delivery of a PS3 for Blu-ray too.

Can anyone give any guidance as to which one would best suit my needs, I'm concerned regarding reports on the forums of poor motion tracking on some Sony sets as I do watch a fair bit of sport.

Thanking you in advance

The panasonic is better at motion handling. Seen lots of negative comments on the W4000 and the V series is not going to be better than that. HDVTest reviews confirmed this. The Panny has a higher real contrast ratio, too. The Sony quotes "dynamic" contrast ratios, which you cannot achieve on the panel at any one time.

I would go with the Panny.

Thanks for the advice. Useful pointer re the contrast as i'm not really one for looking at stats usually.

I will probably go and try and check out both before I buy.
