Painting some speakers

Can anyone suggest the best way of painting some tatty speakers. I want them white and are probably going to be used for the kitchen. Is normal gloss white paint okay to use or emulsion? They have a thin coating of vinyl on them. Do I need a primer first?

I don't intend to paint around the cones just over the front grille. Maybe a white spray would be best to coat the cloth grille?

Do not paint the cloth grill. It will ruin it's 'sonic transparency'. Better to recover it in white material.

Use whatever paint you feel you like the look of for the box, although a gloss white aerosol, properly applied, would look best, finish wise.

Find a specialist (car ?) paint suppliers. There is a special type of paint for vinyl wrapped things like speakers - cant remember what its called but I sprayed some wrapped mdf wardrobes once, works a treat (and lasts)

My local dealer makes it up in whatever size cans you want and puts the additive in to suit vinyl, not expensive either.

Take the speakers apart as much as possible as well rather than 'masking up the drivers, just loosen them out a bit then mask them.

Okay, I'll get some white acoustically transparent cloth for the speaker grilles to replace the black stuff. Is this the enamel paint you mean? Do I need to paint with anything else before?

There are specific paints widely available for use on vinyl wrapped kitchen unit doors which I have used in the past and came up a treat...can't remember who made it but it seemed to be fairly common in the DIY outlets, reasonably priced and would suit your purposes perfectly. Use a small foam roller to apply and you get a smooth even finish.

Thanks for the reply Red Dragon. I'll take a trip to the local DIY store and look for this paint. I'm not so keen on the aerosol idea as i have limited ventilation and will paint them inside flat.
