REALLY getting frustrated now please someone put me out of my misery......

Had my heart set on the Sony STR DA-5400es receiver but wife said it was the receiver or her.....?

So came down a notch or 2 decided to dettle for the 2400es model instead, found it in stock on play.com so clicked 'buy' and was very happy for a couple of days. On ordering the status of my order was listed as 'order taken' this was well over a week ago(18th) so obviously they do not have stock or it would have been shipped by now........

The only other site I can find the sony on is Krisch AV who want £499 for it a full £69 more than Play(and nearly £100 over the RRP of £400).

On the other hand I have found the Yamaha RX-V1900 for £850, since it's RRP was £1000 in Jan I guess this is a really good deal...so is the Yamaha worth the extra ?

I have always bought Sony receivers in the past so I will need some convincing....?

The Yamaha is a much better amp IMO. The Sony is good at the price but the sound is not nearly as full or as detailed as the Yamaha. The 1900 is far closer to the 5400 than the 2400. What speakers are you running?

Depending on what kind of speakers you intend to run, yes the Yamaha is a bigger step and gives a totally different sound to Sony. You find many of the Sony, Yamaha and Pioneer amps really hard to get at the moment, so auditioning one may be impossible. I would also look at Onkyo, but with out any information on your setup makes it difficult to give any good advice.

Congrats, Yamaha is a solid buy. I'm sure you'll be happy with that.

Oh, and about the wife...you remember what she said. And next time she wants something...:)

YeeeeeHaaaaa!!!!!! Got an ex-demo(set-up and demoed once) RX-V1900 from quantum electronics for £825 plus a free QED optical cable for my PS3......well chuffed arriving Tuesday....so it will be a busy day setting up my new Mezzos and the receiver....was so pleased a the price saving I bought a NAD C545 BEE to replace my old Aram Alpha 7se as well...

Maybe turning 40 wasn't so bad after all......good excuse for the upgrade(used the " well I could have went out and bought a Harley" speech on the missus....worked a treat although I fear I may be out of pocket quite a bit on her 40th next year....)

Hello LCD I've bought that Yamaha as well from Sevenoaks in Dublin. Should arrive next week.

I bought mine first and told the wife afterwards. She's still here unfortunately.
