hi all,I’m looking for a set of these for when the Boss won’t let me have my music on loud or the weeman is in bed I can get a set

of b&w p7 for £250 from a localish dealer and they get great reviews they would be plugged into a rotel amp (not sure if that matters).

Any other makes and models out there you guys recommend?Like I said I would prefer wired please...also where to get them.

thanks in advance for your help as usual.....you guys are a great help on here.

If you can go open back....hi-fi man he400i......these are superb cans and can be gotten used within your budget if you don't mind second hand hp's....new they're around £300 but they're the best cans I've owned thus far..out of akg k550,grado sr125i and grado sr325i......these planer magnetic cans have a great low down performance together with the attributes of the mids and highs of a open back hp.

Can I ask what the build quality of the he400i cans are like. There are quite a few reviews on a well known on line retailer where people have posted pictures and complained about the cans falling apart.

Also on the same retailers website they are being listed with 3 different prices!! The cheapest is £180.

The build quality is just right for the price...I do expect some have went as factory seconds on the likes of Amazon and mass drop sales....where the quality is maybe questionable...I bought my pair used from a reputable ebayer with excellent feedback....make sure the headphones are in the original presentation case and that the headphones have the newer 2.5mm plugs and not the older screw in ones....I wouldn't touch the ones advertised at such low prices and that's why I stayed away until a genuine looking deal came up....theses ones on eBay at low prices don't show the manufacturers box or even the actual headphones that you will receive..be careful of these sellers.

Just looked on eBay just now and there's a pair at £199 or best offer in the original packaging.....I'd snap them up right now.

The ones I saw for £180 are being sold on amazon. Can’t understand how Amazon are selling them at 3 different prices. Was also considering the Grado SR325e for approx £215.

I had Grado 325i's....ouch...the top end was just too much for my older ears and so,couldn't manage more than a hour listening with them...and the bass couldn't get anywhere near the he 400i....also as I said I wouldn't touch the ones on Amazon at £180.

Hay T..I've just been looking at that amazon UK price......that looks like it could be a fine deal......I got my he400i just a few weeks ago..as you know used on eBay...but at that time...the he400i on Amazon were over £300....it's up to you bud...but if you're not happy with them you always have the returns policy to fall back on...I have read that they put them on sale from Time to time....oh and it's hifi man UK that seems to be the seller through amazon...it probably doesn't get much more genuine than that.....in fact I really should just get myself a spare set at that money.lol.

Ha ha. They do seem genuine. At the moment I’m just trying to convince myself to buy them. Must admit the build quality that people have said about is a concern.

on the SR325i's as I had exactly the same issue. This is a fierce price sector so I would audition as many as possible and decide what kind of sound you prefer. I had the AKG 550 and the sound is very flat and 'reference' style to my ears. They started falling apart so they were replaced by the Shure SRH1450 which my ears love. Also in your price range there are some good noise-cancelling models which might swing a deal, Richer Sounds could be the shop to go to.

Thank you for your help but I ended up with the p7’s and the xtra long cable so I don’t yank it out the amp in the living room and wake everyone up late at night,I like the b&w brand as I have the speakers the rotel amp and all my portable stuff is apple so I think these should be just fine.

I may splash out in a few year for a proper pair . *biggrin*

Lovely build quality those B&W's.

As to Grado, it's all in the ear cushions ... . Replace the ones that come with the 325's with the flat foamy ones and you have a different sound. Still Grado direct but without fierceness.

Or you could save a couple of hundred and buy the 80e which come standard with the 'flats'. Warmer still but unmistakingly Grado.

Luv'em.
