Optimum screen size

Hi. I've just joined the forum, this is my first post.

I am just starting to plan a new (my first) home cinema system. The first of many decisions is what screen size I should go for. The room size is approx. 9m x 5.5m, but as it's a joint dining room/lounge, the lounge area is approx 5m x 5.5m. The viewing distance is likely to be 2.5-3m. Having scanned past threads, I believe the correct screen size for this viewing distance is 40", but would like that confirmed please. Many thanks.

The 'correct' screen size? No such thing - just a reccomendation.

Personally I'd be looking at buying a 46 or even 50in screen in a room that size and with that viewing distance - it's what we have at home and I'd be reluctant to go back to anything smaller.
