Optical Vs Phono

how should I connect my Denon CD player to my Denon AV Amp ? Should I go with the optical out direct to the amp, or high quality phono cables?

High quality phono, if you like the DAC in the CD player.

Coaxial, if you want to use the CDP as a transport, and use the DAC in the AV amp. Coaxial, over Optical, as there's two less conversions of the signal (i.e. no Electrical->Optical->Electrical), each of which risks degradation of the signal (but not a huge amount, probably)
