Optical splitter swiches

Hi everyone does anyone have an optical splitter or switch that actually works I've tried a few but none do the job.

I have a tv box which is connected to my dac via 5 metre optical cable.

I have an Apple TV box next to the tv box and want that connected to dac too, I have tried two short cables from boxes into a splitter then the 5m cable but no go, the splitters were not expensive one from eBay and one from Amazon.

looking at the ends of your cables with the equipment switched on and off? I'm wondering if the output on one of them stays on all the time so that's all that will work. I've seen one with a definite 1/2 switch which is maybe what you need.
