Hi - I am new to the forums so please be gentle...

I have the following equipment - Sony STR-DA2400ES, Samsung UE40B7020, Sony PS3 and Sky+HD and currently use HDMI cables for the connections from the TV, Sat and PS3 to the AV receiver plus a optical digital cable from the Sat to Receiver.

I notice that the PS3 also has a optical digital out. Please can you advise on whether I should try to also connect the PS3 to the Receiver (it has two spare optical digital input slots) or is the audio already provided at the same (or better) quality by the HDMI cable?

Any help/advice greatly received

Cheers

Steve

HDMI is best as optical doesnt have enough bandwidth for DTS HD-MA or Dolby TrueHD on Blu-rays.

If its a PS3 fat make sure u set BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI) to Linear PCM in video settings.

(If its a ps3 slim u dont need to bother)

Many thanks - sounds like I should stay with the HDMI cable. I have the old PS3 fat so will check the settings.

I have made the suggested changes to the settings and I now see LPCM in the Receiver display menu when my PS3 is connected. Is this correct?

Thanks
