I've got a Classe CA5200 Power Amp which has its XLR Connections wired as follows 1 Ground, 2 + (non inverting), 3 - (inverting). My Onkyo PR-SC886 is wired as follows 1 Ground, 2 Hot, 3 Cold. A review in another mag mentions that while the single ended outputs are phase positive the balanced XLR's are wired phase inverting. Will I therefore need to get non standared XLR cables made up if I want to use the balanced XLR connectors?
I have a Classe Pre connected to the Classe power with standard XLR connectors for stereo and there are no problems. I connected the centre output of the Onkyo via XLR to the Classe power amp and there was a loud buzzing from the centre speaker which disappeared when I powered on the Onkyo. I replaced the XLR with a normal phono cable and the buzzing was not present whether or not the Onkyo was on.
Is the problem being caused by my standard XLR wiring? Also does anyone know if its ok to use a mix of XLR and ordinary connectors on the Onkyo as my power amp has XLR inputs but my sub doesn't?
