Hi Folks,

I have slowly begun to understand and appreciate the various possible ways to implement a home HiFi system.

Just wanted to ask the experts a question pertaining to viewing movies in Stereo mode.

I own an Onkyo TX-SR608 7.2 channel AVR, and plan to use it for music + Movies + TV viewing.

My current plan is to buy a decent pair of front speakers and add a center later this year. I have no serious plans of utilising the surround speakers!

Given the above facts, what speaker settings should I use to run my AVR while watching movies and TV?Will watching Dolby or DTS surround format media in Stereo result in loss of audio quality?

If I use a center speaker, which mode do I use to output sound to my fronts and center only?

Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Thanks,

Panther

Well, I'm not Reg, but provided you run the automatic set-up the receiver should detect the lack of speakers in places it's expecting to find them, and set itself up accordingly.

Thanks Andrew. That means that My receiver would be able to recognise the fact that I have only fronts and a center and do the job thereafter.

Thanks. Sorry, I missed one point.

Does the same hold good if I use only front speakers (stereo setup without center speakers)? I'm asking this because I read a lot about how Center speakers are a must for watching movies. Please help.

Many thanks again.

Yes, you can set the receiver to Centre: None, and the sound will be split between the front left and right. Mind you, at that point you might as well take a stereo feed from your player and use a stereo amp rather than a receiver...

Thanks so much again. I get the point. You mean I would end up using my AVR as a Stereo Amp, right? In which case, a Stereo Amp would do the job better.

Have a good day ahead.
