Old school vs new tech

Hello ladies and gentleman,

In my spare time, I have been looking at hifi gear(mainly amps/power amps) on eBay. I have been contemplating buying a arcam alpha 8 amp with a power amp.

Just wondering how much quality difference would there be between this kit and say a modern amp like marantz pm6004. There must be a good ten year difference, has technology moved onto produce budget electronics to match old school mid to top end hifi sound quality?

Specifically regarding amplifiers, no.

Amplifier technology has not moved on much if at all since the mid to late 70's. Just my opinion of course.

With regards to the Arcam, personally if it were my money, I'd try to get at least an Alpha 9.
