Now, you have the Panny S53 DVD player (and presumably people think its easy to get better as WHF do'nt rate a single Panny player, until you get to the burays). You want the best DVD player you can get for circa £200, ragradless of BluRay, HD sound; all that is irrelevant, but I'm not saying do'nt chose one, but only choose it if the picture with DVDs justifies it.

Also, are there better DVD players for under 200 than the BD35?

One final detail you need to know - the TV is only 37".

Messiah:I would buy THIS (look at those accolades) and I have. However, you may have trouble getting one! There is one on ebay at the moment for a decent price.....

Cheers. Do you know how long they have been around and how much they were to begin with?

That said, id rather stick with stuff that was within (or very nearly within) budget to begin with, and if i can find it first hand any cheaper... : )

Yeah they both look good. The Oppo reviewed here may be good too, i know theres at least one fan around here somewhere...

Do you think the performance of those mentioned so far would comfortably out-do the BD35 on such a small screen?

It's nice to see that a 37" TV is now considered 'small'

Back in the day of CRT that was as big as it got - what beasts they were!

Anyway, as for DVD playback. Could I say they 'comfortably' outperform the BD35. Not really. As I have said before, if the two were compared side-by-side then you might notice a difference but viewed on its own I am sure it will look great.

As I am sure you are aware Al, I don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but maybe demo it and see what you think.

From my experience with the Pioneer Vs Denon 1930 Vs PS3 I would say that the picture quality differences are subtle.

Most helpful that, many thanks!

And you can teach me what you like, any time*

* Must confess tho the question is largely academic as i got the bd35, but then figured if i can get shot and get a signifiacantly better dvd player (for little money), as my TV may not show the full benefits of BR...Y'see where im going...? And i have now seen the 35 and the ps3 with BRs on my telly and didnt think there was much in it. Still, maybe i should relax and stop worrying as the differences arent huge for what id spend, and the 35 has hd audio processing if i ever need it blah blah...

Ahem. Sorry.

Just be happy with the '35!

I find that Blu-Ray pictures are certainly not miles better than DVD although they do give you the option to sit about a foot from your TV and still have a great looking picture
