I would have to agree with others , i'm pretty sick of hearing about this court claims between Apple and Samsung even though samsung parts are in the iPhone (go and figure) and i think its about time more cases ended like this regardless of company.

Can you imagine if the first company that invented the car or television or even a microwave sued over other companys copying there designs and where would we be now?

Samsung is a conglomerate, made up of multiple different companies. The component devision has very little to do with the mobile devision, which has nothing to do with TVs etc. The component side is probably a little pissed at all the business they lost to LG and Sharp etc over all of this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benz_Patent-Motorwagen

It was patented, and was reproduced under license by other manufacturers. All relevant parts of the car would have been licensed even back then. It would have been much harder to keep track of though, as information moved much slower. Apparently, one of the reason the location for Hollywood was chosen was to dodge patents from Kodak Eastman on the other side of the country. LA was pretty non existent at the time.

Apple are stuck in a hard place right now. I agree that this is all reeeaaaalllllyyyyy boring now, and it would be nice if it all went away, but a company can't leave its IP un-defended. It would be suicide. So they have to plough on, even though it looks like its damaging the brand.

I wonder how things would turn out if they just all try to get along, i'm pretty sure each company could come up with there own design that they coulds say "its mine!" without taking each other to court
