I'm about to decorate/turn an upstairs bedroom into a study, without a TV aerial point but I want to put a freeview TV in there - what are my options if i am unable (and unwilling) to run a cable in from the aerial?

1. The bedroom 2 rooms away has an aerial point, so simply run a co-ax from that point under the carpet and into the study (probably about 10 meters in length required) - can you get thinner than normal co-ax and is the length a problem?

2. Signal sender - can a signal be sent using one of these gadgets when the receiving TV doesnt have an aerial connection? Any recommendations of a make if so?

3. Coathanger/more upto date portable aerial - is this a viable option?

4. Anything else?

Thanks for any help.

Go to Wolfbane and check the signal strength for your postcode. It's not always true, but should give an indication as to whether it might work. Best thing then is to just stick a telly in there with a 'rabbit ears' or similar and see how it goes. Maplin are good about returns on boosters if they don't work (tried three before I got one that worked).

Also - you should investigate if you can turn off your TV's aerial amplifier, as an external booster working with the TV's internal system can actually decrease the quality. I think.

One Point - Try not to buy thin (and usually cheap Co-ax) if your signal is will make a difference between the cheap stuff and say the better quality C100 or CT120.

It does make a difference for RF cables. Its not like mains wire where the length does not make a difference (Ignoring the 17th Edition rules for now), longer cheap co-ax cables are not recommended.
