Hi everyone. I have been visiting this site for years and thought I'd reach out to the experts.

I have a modest system, but to me it's my baby:

Atoll IN80 Amplifier

PMC GB1 Speakers

Grant Tube DAC-09

Rega Mini Phonostage

Cable Company Interconnect Cables

Legendary Audio Bi-Wire Speaker Cable (EBay)

My main issue is that when listening past 50% volume the amp gets HOT (like, fry an egg in 5 seconds hot) and the left speaker cuts out. I need to let the amp cool down for 20 mins before I can listen to another two songs (if that). I purchased this gear to get great quality but also decent volume. Sometimes 20% just doesn't cut it.

I dont know know much about the technical audio specifics so my first step was to get better speaker cable but could really use some advice before spending hundreds of dollars.

Thank you!!!

Most amplifiers will give there maximum output at approx half volume with a line level input. Having said that your amp is 80watts per channel which should be plenty for most domestic properties, providing it's wired correctly you don't have many options you need a more powerful amplifier. If your amp has preouts you could add a poweramp and biamp your speakers. The poweramp can be approx 3 times more powerful for the bass drivers so you could use your integrated amp for the tweeters and the more powerful poweramp for the bass drivers.

Thank you for the reply. I'm a bit sad my amp won't deliver what I expected. Since I tend to shy away from the more commercial products like what my local Futureshop has to offer (Yamaha, Deon, Etc) do you have any recommendations for a more powerful stereo amplifier? My intention is to stick with my PMC 2.0 speakers and all that's offered around here are 7.1 commercial amps that do way more than what I'm looking for.

Thank you you for any suggestions you can offer.

Also - the amp does have a pre out. Could I send this to my Grant DAC-90 and then connect that to the tweeter / mid in the PMC speaker as my speakers are BI-Wire. Sorry I'm new to all this but if I could make this work with my current setup that would be awesome.

Can you explain what pre-out does exactly??

Need to clear a few things up here, bi-wiring is simply running two lots of speaker cables from the SAME AMP to the high and low terminals on the speakers. It does not provide any more power to your speakers. What you seem to be talking about is bi-amping where you use one amp for the low frequencies and another for the high frequencies but this also does not give you more power. You can't actually do this anyway as your Grant DAC-09 is simply a DAC/pre-amp, it is NOT an amplifier, so how you were going to connect it to your speakers when it doesn't have any speaker outputs is a question I don't really want to hear the answer to! Then there's the question of what your playing on this system as you haven't listed any sources anywhere but that's just me being nosey.

Either way, you seem to be trying to use hi-fi equipment to get club sound, it'll never work, hi-fi gear just isn't designed to run at those kind of volumes levels for any length of time, all you're going to do is destroy everything, if you're not careful.
