Hi everyone,

I am looking to purchase some new speakers for my Yamaha av reciever as the left and right speakers that came with the package are far too small, they sound ok when watching bluray movies but if i want to list to something energetic like the Prodigy they just splutter due to the size of the cone, approx 4cm dia' ...so my question is...

What do you recommend for me with a budget of £100/£150 shelf or floor standers are suitable for me. I looked at the Eltax concept 180 but am not 100% convinced as they are only £70 ish, also looking at the wharfedale diamond 9.1??? ANY COMMENTS and advice on a suitable half decent pair would be greatly appreciated

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your quick reply. The Yamaha model I have is RX-V 357

Hmmm... Well, the main problem you're going to have is that if you upgrade the left and right front speakers, the centre speaker will be rather overwhelmed when playing movies.

Your best bet might be to use the speaker A/B switching to connect speakers such as those you mention to one set of outputs, and keep the speakers supplied in the package on the other set of terminals. I'd suggest the new speakers on the A terminals and the existing fronts on the B terminals.

Use the A speakers, and the receiver set to run in stereo, when playing music, and the B speakers for surround when playing movies.

Perfect, thanks. So can you recommend any speakers for music between £100 and £150ish maybe a little bit over
