New sub & centre speaker or a new set of 5.1 speakers

Hi all, I've been lodging at the in-laws for about 18 months and have now got a flat of my own again. I've got boxed-up a Marantz SR4200, a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers, a pair of Mission bookshelf speakers, but no sub or centre speaker as I gave them away before I moved. The question is, do I just try and pick up a replacement sub and centre speaker (probably second hand to keep costs down) or should I ditch the bookshelf speakers and go for something like the Jamo A102 HCS5 5.1 speaker set? The more compact dimensions of the Jamos would help with the size of room I've got but I'm worried that it won't sound as good, particularly when playing CDs in stereo. What do you think of compact surround speakers for music, is it a big no? Would a good compromise be to keep 2 of the bookshelf speakers and use them as the 2 front surrounds and use the small Jamos for everything else?

Thanks in advance for your advice :)
