Well I would try them where you will be locating them, I think by a bay window could cause some problems with bass going out through the glass but high notes being reflected around. Home demos are a must I think in your case. Try a better amp and different speakers.

had not thought about changing the amp - might be worth consideration - i presume i have a limited choice of speakers given the current amp

Your Rega Brio-R is an wonderful amp! A Hi-Fi shop in my city says it is their best-seller ever. Just visit a local Hi-Fi shop (with your Brio-R or their's) and ask to try them out with a few speaker options. Heh, I coupled my Brio-R with Kef LS-50's this past 18 months, with mostly amazing results. If you want to upgrade to a different amp, go for it. You will still have to match components carefully.

Hi Gavin Sim

Yes, we do stock stock the MB-1's.

Just been listening to Flickers (London Grammar - If You Wait) and the sound from the MB-1's is clear, detailed, fast but also has weight and punch. The sound also has excellent projection which gives an out of box sound and all done in a silky smooth manner The integration between the ribbon tweeter and mid/bass drive unit is superb

All the best

Found those MB-1 efficiency specs for me Rick?

Cheers

how does the elex-r compare to the brio - i might audition some speakers and amps then

The Elex-R, housed in a case twice the size, builds further on the delicious transparent sound of the Brio-R. I traded up because I felt the LS50 speakers were not giving their all with the Brio-R. But my budget did not allow the Elicit-R. The swap has been very worthwhile. Much greater detail, a vastly bigger field with increased separation between "voices", a new musicality across every source and every level, plus a more tolerant response to "difficult" recordings. It runs even cooler. The LS50's now never seem "unhappy". They can be played much louder (without distortion) than I ever need.

Gavin,

I just bought the Elex-R. It's a good amp and as expected better than the Brio-R. Mine is hooked up to Proac speakers and the combo sounds good. You could try a pair of Rega speakers like the RS3 or RS5's. There is that Rega synergy going for it and they are front ported. Just have to make sure the side woofer has room to do its thing.

Hi Vladimir

I contacted Raidho Acoustics a few weeks ago regarding the sensitivity of their new Scansonic MB-1, MB-2.5 and MB-3.5 loudspeakers. Michael Borresen was kind enough to respond and informed me that the sensitivity of the MB Series is 86 - 87db which was pretty much in line with what i already had in mind based on having used MB-1's and MB 2.5's.

All the best

That is typical and even decent sensitivity for such compact design + with ribbons. Sonus Faber watch out!

Thanks Rick. *ok*

Hi Vladimir

Your welcome.

I should have said that the performance with ribbon tweeter in conjunction with the carbon fibre mid/bass drive unit is not just fast but lightning fast and still silky smooth

Btw, Raidho Acoustics have added pictures on their facebook (taken at the RMAF) of the MB-1's alongside their bigger brothers the X-1's and D-1's

I have to say that all three look
