I got the new EPG on Wednesday. I like it. Once I got rid of the stupid mini tele in the program listings, it freed up room for an extra channel listing.

I like the one-button entry into the planner page (Press 'play')

I like the new series link, because its now instant and guaranteed to work, unlike the gamble of the previous version.

The series stack feature is neat, too.

Sky have pulled off a good upgrade, imo.

Well having now had a few days to play around with the new EPG there are only a couple of things bad about it but the good points more than make up for any little gripes.

Shame that you cant add ITV HD to normal channel listing tho but then again there is not much shown on it so gives you plenty of time to go to the OTHER channel bit (even with the now very slow to react remote!)

Hmm still not sure about the whole thing to be honest. Just read what bretty said about pressing play which I didn't know about and this has improved things a little. I got rid of the mini tele and this improved things too, but it's just SO SLOW! I often end up pressing the wrong button while waiting for my sky box to do something I already asked it to. Is this just my box??

I have had the same problem as you.....everything began slowing to a crawl with the HD box (Thomson) to the point where i had an engineer out today who gave me a brand new Samsung replacement box. Back to the old menu for a little while until the new EPG is rolled out for all Samsung boxes.

Strange eh? Had Sky HD for 13 months and new EPG is great but its also so much quicker - so many saying its slower ! Thompson box works great. I just wonder why different people have different experiences.

I upgraded to SkyHD in December, ordered in October, it's an Amstrad box. Anyone else similar and received the new EPG? Anyone know when it might be due or where I can check?

Cheers.

Had the new HD EPG for almost two months now, but as of Saturday, I'm now back to the old SD EPG. I had a Thompson HD box that worked fine for 9 months before the HD EPG arrived. After the EPG updated, the box started to part-record programmes with the error "no satellite signal being received". This steadily increased in frequency from once a fortnight to once a day, affecting live viewing as well as recording, until the box pretty much ceased to function. The engineer who replaced my box on Saturday advised me to stay on the old SD EPG fro as long as possible, as the new HD EPG software was killing HD boxes faster than they could replace them.....A case a "Be careful what you wish for" if ever there was one.

Perhaps daveh75 can give us the inside voice?

Had mine for a couple of weeks now and not very impressed.

1. Blue bars top and bottom when viewing on a 4:3 telly via the RF output.

2. Won't record anything when the box is switched off. When you switch it back on it says no satellite signal is being received.

3. Infuriating blue button nonsense. The idea of a function which allows you to flick between 2 channels is great, but why not assign it to the green or yellow buttons and make it actually select the channel??? Using the blue button for this function means if you want to cycle through your favourite channels you have to start from whichever channel you were viewing last. Not much use if you want to move from say Sky Sports 1 to Sky Sports News when you'd previously been watching Eastenders?

4. INCREDIBLY SLOW.

The only positive for me is being able to press the i button whilst scrolling through now and next. Personally, I'd love to roll it back to the old one, anyone know how to do it?

Hi,

Has anyone noticed the impact this guide has had on resolution switching or is it just me ?

If I'm watching SD material and switch to HD material using the guide the resolution stays at 560p. If I key in the channel number instead (ie 143 for BBC HD), the resolution changes to 1080i, after which the resolution stays like this irrespective of what material I switch too.

This occures whether connected directly to the TV or my Denon Receiver, (which has HDCP issues but that's another matter).

As far as I'm concerned by forcing this EPG on me Sky have well and truely screwed up my HD box or is it me being stupid ?

Thanks and Regards

Nigel

It's a Thompon box about 18months old btw.
