Hey guys,

In the market for a new projector, after selling my IN78 about 4 months ago, I have been deeply missing it. The IN78 and my friends IN76, both from Infocus are the only experience I have with projectors. The difference in the 2 projectors I was able to see quickly.

Now I am looking to either go for a Panasonic or a new Infocus projector[LCD/DLP]. Either the IN80 or the Panasonic 2000U. If anyone has any advice, experience with either of these projectors any help would be great. I have been informed that because I will have to use the keystone correction with my projector that the Panasonic would be the best bet due to its vertical lens shifting ability, as the IN80 will lose resolution as the keystone is corrected.

Anyway, any advice is welcome, thx. Need a BIG SCREEN EXPERIENCE! :p

The PTAE2000 is now the improved PTAE3000. With the LCD projectors you will have far more flexibility with its placement as it has excellent lens shift. Keystone will distort the picture and should be the last resort in terms of placement IMO.

The LCD units have come on a long way and the PTAE3000 certainly brings the black levels and depth that are so often associated as winning strengths on the DLP models. Even if placement wasnt an issue I would still choose the Panasonic to me it is the projector to beat at its price point.

Matengawhat - Its all about placement of your projector. The projector needs to be inline with the bottom or top of your screen to avoid keystone correction. My projection point is in the middle of my screen which is perfect for the Panasonic, but with regards to the infocus I have to aim the projector lens at either the top of bottom of my screen and then use keystone correction to get straight side edges. Hope this makes sense.

Thx HomeCinemaCentre - unfortunately the 3000U model is out of my price range, however the release of that projector has brought the 2000U model into my price range. But the Whathifi review says that even if the Infocus was double its price, it still would have won.

Made me confused :)

My heart loves Infocus, but my brain says that the Panasonic will give me a true picture due to no keystone correction. But if the Infocus is that much better, then I suppose its a no brainer.

Thx for any help you can provide.

cheers vinny - have tried several position and angles but my projector has always been either two foot below or 1 foot above the screen so always needed to use some!! My projector sits between my sofa and the screen so can't really higher it that much and ceiling mounting is out - guess will just have to live with a bit

A demonstration would help you decide.

At the lower price point you could also consider the Sony VPL-HW10 but if you can move up a bit on your budget you will not be disappointed by the Panasonic. There are some very good deals about at the minute and the price differential doesnt look too bad.
