Anyone taken the plunge?
My ND7 away for refurbishing at REGA and considering this as an infill / spare…
Looks great on paper. Alloy body threaded entries, boron cantilever, PCUHD windings. Seems like a bargain ……

Capacitance my biggest concern to avoid HF sibilance…

Cant you adjust loading & capacitance on your phono stage to avoid HF problems
or try a MI ( moving iron ) cartridge immune to capacitance Grado & Soundsmith


AT VM745xML has a microline/microridge stylus very , very , very sensitive on set-up Azimuth & VTA need to be dialled in

my Rega Naid took most of a day to dial in the cartridge

Looks a good buy . But its specs for phono input of 47k ohms and 100 to 250 cap are absolutely bang average MM specs.

AT have been doing this stuff a long time why do you think you'll get HF problems? If anything your setup argues against sibilance. The ND7 recommended range for cap overlaps but goes up to 300.

If you're at the top of the range for the ND7 you'll attenuate HF off the AT not boost it. But as in all likelihood you're in the middle like the rest of us there wouldn't be a problem. BTW the RCA cables count in total input impedance and capacitance so changing those is a thing if you need to (and are able to...).

One thing that can introduce distortion, either 'brittleness' or dullness in the sound, is VTA, echoing the comments above.

For MM cartridges, the recommended impedance is 47kOhms but the recommended capacitance varies between cartridges.
The capacitive load is the sum of the phono-cable capacitance and phono-stage capacitance. The former is usually somewhere within the range 150-200pF and the latter 50-150pF but depends on the phono-stage.

I would certainly not use any alcohol based cleaning on any stylus that has a glued diamond. I think that almost goes without saying. Neither would I use any sticky substances.

Magic sponge and stylus brush here. Ultrasonic stylus cleaners work good too but are normally not necessary.

I think you missed the point as to where the alcohol was being used.....
