Hi. I am in the market for a new television and have been looking at the new panasonic TH46PZ85 plasma. Have read some good and bad things about them ( What HIFI review included). Cant decide whether to take the plunge with one of these or just to play safe and buy a 42 inch pioneer kuro. Will be watching a lot of HD material through Sky HD box, Xbox 360 HD DVD drive and Panasonic BMD DP 30 Blu ray player. Any body help?????

You need to compare the two in the shops.

If your watching a lot of BluRay and other HD material then I'd go for the larger 46" . You should be able to see the difference with the 1080p panel.

I would say Pioneer.... you could always wait for the new Kuros.... but you may risk not being able to find a 4280X anywhere

thanks. finding it hard to find a 46'' in any shops. seen plenty of 42" panasonics in shops and look really good but have read elsewhere on these forums that quality may not be the same on different size screen even though panels are the same.

I think the 46in ones are the PZ80 and PZ85... full HD, which is not necessarily a good thing as most people are saying the fullHD sets a shocking at displaying standard def.

As most of your viewing is HD, go for the Panny 46PZ80/85. Both excellent Full HD panels, and great value for money.

SD material is fine, but not as good as the HD ready PX80.

[/quote]Have you actually viewed these TVs. Check out the 42PZ80 review on this site.

"Standard-definition broadcasts on the Panasonic look particularly accomplished, with good image stability and detail. "

I have the 42" PZ85 and SD content looks very good depending on the quality of the station your watching. It's mainly ITV and a few others that transmitt at a lower quality than say the BBC for example. 95% of the time though it's very good.
