the more I read about HDR, the more I realise it's not for me and nobody seems to be able to get it right just yet.

That's what I am asking myself at the moment, I might for a 1080p cheap OLED instead. I am buying from John Lewis this time over the Internet, so I can return it up to 90 days if it's not good.

I agree, it's too early for HDR. I'm sticking with 1080p until it's sorted, and I would only move to 4K if my current tv went belly up and the remaining 3.5 years of warranty didn't cover it.

I think that what nugget meant in post #28 is that you could buy a non-HDR 4K set, like one from Samsung's H75000 series from last year but which is still holding its own against newcomers, and is now cheaper than ever. For instance the Samsung UE65JU7000, see here http://www.whathifi.com/samsung/ue65ju7000/review and which is re-reviewed in the paper copy of the magazine that is now on the bookshelves. fending off two new rivals.

Must admit I'm leaning towards the 58" version of the Panasonic. It'd be good to see them side by side.

That Samsung isn't very much cheaper and seems a bit low rent in comparison.

Im looking into getting a Panasonic TX-58DX902B, but I'm not sure what to do. I have been waiting to see if they will release a 55" Oled in there CZ950 series. What Hifi thought they where going to release a 55" oled in spring.
Is it worth waiting to see if they release a 55" panel? Is there a big difference between the blacks on the DX902B using the local dimming to the Oled 65CZ950?

I don't think Panasonic will release a 55" OLED TV. It does not achieve the peak luminance for it to qualify for "Ultra HD Premium" badge.

I don't know if Panasonic will make a 55" version in their OLED series. One hears yes, then hears no. I couldn't say how the blacks on DX902 compare to the absolute blacks of the 65CZ950. Maybe if you look at the reviews that are now linked to this thread?

I'm puzzled by why you want to compare a 58-inch DX902 to a 65-inch OLED. Surely the valid comparison would be between the 65DX902 and the 65CZ950, no?

But if you really want an OLED, and you don't want to buy a second-hand Panasonic 65CZ950 for £4,800, then you should know that the LG B6, C6, E6 and G6 series OLEDs are just about to be widely available, prices for 55", 65" and 77" sizes for instance at John Lewis http://www.johnlewis.com/browse/electricals/televisions/all-tvs/oled/_/N-6srfZ1z0rgkw. The 2016 OLEDs from LG are significantly better than their 2015 counterparts, though I don't know how the new OLEDs compare to the Panasonic 65CZ950 OLED.
