But whats the point , anyone know if we are any closer to getting an actual disc that will play 4k movies .i know about the whole redray and sony streaming farce (U.S only).

I just dont see the point of these 4k tvs they should have brought out some type of player with selected movies ( not those sony 4k remastered blu ray) at the same time ,the only people that are going to buy these tvs are movie fans,6 grand on a tv to watch eastenders i think not.

I think the discs will have to be 300g im not saying they have an task .ive shelled out 500quid for the oppo103 which but if i had just psid 6grand for a 4ktv id be happy to psy 500 for a new disc player.

I think there is a point, for manufacturers to claw back some 4K investment from early adopters. Sky is already testing 4K broadcast. Hopefully, by the time it's ready to offer 4K services, 4K TV prices would've come down.

I just find the whole thing annoying it would be like buying a hd tv in 2002 for waiting till 2006 for blu ray to be released , no doubt there was hd broadcasts before blu ray came out but i want to watch 4k movies on my 4k tv .

The majority of the british public want the biggest screen for the cheapest price and the people like me who are prepared to pay for the latest and greatest technology cant even use it to its full potential.

I think it is too early to call , a decision as to how good the set is can only be made when you see it. The Sony VW1000 4k projector is stunning with all material including DVD because it is a superb product first and foremost - it also has a 4k capability. I have only spent a small amount of time with the Sony 4k TV's but they produce top end 1080p images and are very much premium sets.

When 1080 sets came on the market there was a real lack of material but the extra processing in the TV made a difference. 1080 sold in huge numbers against lots of very strong 720p sets and I suspect that 4K will do the same. This side of Christmas it will be the big sets but by next year I imagnie there will be a full line up.

If the new Panasonic takes off where the current ZT65 is then it will be special indeed. I will be ordering one as soon as I can.

Panasonic's current LED lit LCD TV range hasn't been able to compete with the plasmas, so it will be a big leap to get to ZT65. Besides, I think the panel is made by LG (passive 3D), & Panasonic's current passive 3D sets haven't been that impressive, as far as I'm aware.

I don't doubt the quality of the new 4k tvs and projectors, but £17000 on the Sony 4k projector to feed it DVD and in some cases poorly mastered blu ray is very frustrating .if I had £17000 to spend on a projector I would drop kick my entire DVD collection out the window,no matter how big the 4k screen size or quality of the 4k projector until I am able to buy actual movies in 4k on some sort of disc it's pointless ......a very expensive pointless .

i understand pretty much all of our favourite movies weren't filmed in 4k so they will be upscaled on 4k displays ,which will be better but has anyone ever mistaken an upscaled DVD for a blu ray.the oppo and zt65 struggle to make some DVDs look good.

Someone has to bite first, where is the incentive for people to develope the media or content delivery systems if no 4K tv's exist? Sky wouldn't be doing trials if no one was going to release a 4K tv.

Don't blame TV companies for being the ones pulling the industry along, somone has to...

Again we will not know until we see. Panasonic have the potential to make something special. The ZT65 was mentioned as a benchamark and if the 4k is deemed premium I am sure they will be aiming at this level.

Each to their own, I think it is far from pointless. The VW1000 is a staggering product and breathes life into all sources - that is often the way with premium products. For the performance you can acheive I would consider it tremendous value compared to the competition although there is a high price point. A Nissan GTR has a high price point but is good value considering the peers and performance on offer.

Hi-fi that can make the most of streamed or compressed music is another angle. Only listening to 24bit files can be limiting.

Welcome back Nick, haven't heard from you on the forum for a while!

Prices seem to be falling already! I was in John Lewis yesterday and I see that the 4K Sony TV, 55 inches, is now £3299, it was £3,999 a couple of months ago. And I note that the 65" 4K Sony television is now £5k, whereas when it was released two or three months ago it was £6k. Perhaps these falling Sony prices have something to do with the new Samsung UE65F9000 4K LED television costing £5k, the same as the bigger Sony.

It is still a shame about there being not much 4K content yet though!

Prices are dropping surprisingly fast. From the first 4K TV at £24,000, they're suddenly down to under £5,000. And with the announcement of the Sony VW500 UHD projector at £8,500 due out shortly, UHD PJ's have suddenly halved in price. Things are looking good for the future of UHD.

Now we just need the software. As long as Sony dont cut any corners and stay away from releasing Bluray upscales, everything should be fine (even though upscaled Bluray looks stunning).

I hope at the 2014 C.E.S show a new disc and player is announced .it was all 3d 3d 3d in 2012 and 4k 4k 4k in 2013 .saying that 3d without the glasses might be the big topic .pointless showing us anymore big or small screen 4k because we cant afford them and we have nothing to watch on them.sony i think will be first out of the gates with a 4k player i know a lot of machines are 4k ready but if i or others buy a 4k tv in a few years i wont be using my 4k ready blu ray player from 2012 to try out my new discs.actully sony seems to be company pushing 4k the hardest.

This stuff is alway expensive to start. I've still got a Pioneer 43 inch plasma, which was the first to have HDMI, running now as our second TV. It must have been around £6.5k when it first came out. And if I remember the DVD player with an HDMI out was around £1k too!

11 years later and the picture is still not embarased by new TV's - It is chunky, has a very wide bezel, a seperate media box, and only one HDMI input but honestly the picture is still comparable to any mid range new TV i've seen.

I've had value out of it. Can't say I'd drop anything like that on a TV these days, but I got that ex dem and had no kids at the time.

But 6K on the Panasonic screen that size with the quality on offer, if you can afford that sort of cash and it lasts like mine has then it doesn't sound bad to me.

Given HDMI 2.0 only just been officially announced any 4K TV you buy now is already obsolete.

Not strictly true. It is my understanding that Sony are supporting their TV's should the implementation of 2.0 become an issue in the future.

HDMI inputs on current products (and current high speed HDMI cables) will all support 4K, so nothing has become obsolete. It is only the 32 channel feature that current high speed HDMI cables won't support.

But only at 24 or 30fps...

Film is 24fps anyway, so anything above isn't necessary 🙂

Our source is saying up to 50/60 from the info he's been given. Solid info to follow...

I will definately buy 4K, once:

- there are free 4K broadcasts

- 4K discs are available to rent and

- the price of a 100' TV is below 1500GBP in today's money

I guess you won't be buying one then as i doubt you can't get a 100 foot tv in your house.
