Hi

Just signed up. I am from Swansea in South Wales and have been a Hifi enthusiast for many years. I have recently uploaded most of my CD's onto a NAS Drive in flac format. I then purchased a Network Player and all works well. I now want to control things from an iPad or similar and am looking for suggestions. My setup is as follows:-

Router: Billion 7800N

Nas Drive: Synology DJ212j

Network Player: Pioneer N50 (Connected to Network via Solwise Homeplug)

CD Player: Naim CD5

Pre / Power Amp: Naim NAC 202 / NAP 200

Speakers: Dynaudio Audience 70

Look forward to some replies

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the Pioneer Controller works fine. However I would like something like an iTunes app to register all my CD's on an iPad or similar and control my music and the N 50 from there. I cannot use the iTunes software because it does not support flac.

You want to STORE all your CDs on the iPad? Not sure that's possible, they don't typically have that much memory but it depends on the size of your CD collection. I wouldn't recommend it though, certainly not as the sole form of storage at least.

He stores them on a NAS drive and wants to CONTROL it from an ipad.

Sorry

My son uses Airplay to play music from his laptop via iTunes to his Denon Network Player. I would like something similar to pick up my Music Data from my NAS and then play it on the Pioneer N50 I cannot use Airplay because it does not support flac. I am looking for suggestions of how to do this.

Yes I know but the Pioneer ControlApp already does that and he's apparently already using it, so I don't know what the question actually is.

I don't see the point, at the moment your music is going direct from your NAS to your player, to do what you're asking would require your iPad to pull the music off your NAS through the iPad and then onto the player, an extra network step and a lot of data for your iPad to be shuffling across it's wifi connection.

What's actually wrong with the way you're doing it now? Your son can use airplay because his tunes are actually on his laptop. Yours aren't on your iPad.

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

Think things are little confused here as I don't really understand the current setup and what you you're trying to achieve either I'm afraid. It seems like, at the moment, all your music is stored on your Synology NAS in FLAC and you use your Pioneer N50 to play this back. You have the Pioneer ControlApp on your iPad and you can use this to control what music you play on your N50. Is this right?

If so, what is it you actually want to do that's different from this?

(NB - I'm not too clued up on the N50 and its capabilities, so is it that it doesn't offer things like Playlists etc. which an in between app like iTunes would and this is what is missing?)

Jumping the gun on a response from the above, given you're running a Synology NAS, have you looked at the Audio Station package. It comes with an iPad app called DS Audio - this may well offer what you want i.e. if you're looking to bypass the Pioneer and stream direct from your NAS to the iPad?

Thanks for your reply.

My music is stored on my Synology NAS and I use the Pioneer N50 to play this. However the N50 does not have a ControlApp just a manual controller. and a small screen. I would like to add something to an iPad or similar to act like the Airplay app which would show me what music I have stored on the NAS or what I am currently playing.

Ahhh - I think this is where the confusion comes from. The ControlApp mentioned by The_Lhc is an app you can download on your iPad to remotely control your Pioneer N50. Click here to take a look.

Yes I want something like Audio Station. However to my knowlege this will Stream in mp3. I want something that would Stream in flac.

Thanks for your reply

Just had a quick look at the app now. It seems to be OK and the latest version appears to be compatible with the N50. Will give it a go when my son comes home with his iPhone. However I would like something a litle more sophisticated like the Audio Station with the ability to stream flac.

Also there is no mention of this app in the User Guide. It just refers to Airplay.

Thanks for your help
