Hi all,

brand new here so please be gentle.

I'm in the process of upgrading my system. Having been bitten by the AV bug I have now decided that I really need to improve my Stereo setup.

I have recently purchased a Roksan Kandy K2 amp and an Audiolab 8200CD. I'm now looking to add a pair of speakers that will do these justice.

I have a Quad sub and am happy with that so I think I have convinced myself that I am after stand mount speakers as opposed to floor standers.

I'm easily swayed by the reviews on this site and am now seriously considering either the Q Acoustics Concept 20s or the KEF LS50. I realise that there is significant difference in price and am wondering what people's thoughts are? Am I going to notice a lot of difference between them given the prices.

My budget could probably stretch to a grand (including stands)... are there other speakers I should be considering?

I'm in a fairly remote location so it's quite difficult for me to audition.

Any help gratefully received.

TIA

Norman

Norman,

It is so open that it's going to be tough to help you - you are giving a huge price range and not telling us much about the music you will isten to, the room, etc.

If you are committed to using a sub, look for (generally speaking) high sensitivity and larger drivers (6.5" minimum - don't think that it doesn't matter since you have the sub). Sealed boxes would be a good idea since you don't need a lot of bass extension - what about ATC SCM11s?

Any local dealers that'll let you home demo? I think that'll be the key here. We can advise a plethora of different brands and models but until you've actually had them hooked up in your listening environment, blasting your favourite tracks, it's going to be difficult. Try to compile a shortlist and get demo'ing! Good luck!

The electronics you have are excellent and definitely deserve something that's a step up from the Q Acoustics. KEF LS50s or ATC SCM11s would be a good shout, but as others have suggested, definitely demo before you buy.
