Hi

Hi moved into a new home in which we are rewriting the house and wanted some advice.

we want music in two room, the kitchen and the lounge. All our music is digital, and is currently on iTunes on my pc with a selection on our iPhones and iPads. Just to advise, I'm thinking of going with iMatch soon so everything is cloud based.

To add to this, the other source of music I have is from my turntables (through a mixer).

What would people recommend for me to listen to my digital music in these two rooms, and if possible also the music from the turntables in both rooms. I would like the ability to control the speakers to have on or off in each room, and also be able to control the digital music in each room (I guess through my iPad /iPhone).

The only other thing is that if the speaker/s in the lounge could have the sound from the tv playable through them that would be a bonus.

i'm happy to have wires or no wires, I have an amp already and one set of old speakers, but imagine I will be having to invest in some more kit!

I hear a lot about Sonos, don't know if this could work with my turntables, but this isn't absolutely nessasary. Are there any other good options for this? My budget to include two sets of speakers (one for each room) plus and amps and other bits would be needed would be as cheap as possible, but with £500-750 being the absolute top, ideally less than this though. Sorry if this is not realistic!

Sonos will work with both your TT (if it has a line out) and the TV if you get 2 sonos modules. I have a sonos connect in one room that can accept a line in so you could use that with your existing amp and speakers then get a sonos play which has amp and speakers or a sonos connect with amp and use a second pair of speakers in the kitchen. These can all link wirelessly to your PC to stream the itunes files and as the units have line ins you can listen to these line in sources in the other rooms if you desire. One of the sonos units needs a wired network connection unless you buy the bridge unit which then creates its own wireless network connection.

I use a sonos connect direct to a roksan power amp and MA RX6 floorstanders and the sound is great, I listen to a lot of BBC Radio 6 thrpough this little unit and the quality is superb given my out in the styx location! (low broadband, speed less than 2meg)

You should be able to get a sonos based system for less than the £750 budget.

Cheers

A lot depends on what space you have and what sort of sound quality you are after and also what equipment you have already in terms of audio and visual, but your budget needs to cover a lot of equipment to do all of your requirements.

Considering that you are about to use iTunes Match, then I'd recommend an ATV in the lounge into your amp and speakers. I'd then suggest an Apple AEX in the kitchen attache to a pair of Audioengine A5+ speakers.

The wifi dongles below would allow wireless transmission from amp in lounge to speakers in kitchen (in theory). 😉

Total cost, around £600.
