Hi,

I posted a thread regarding the sandstrom range, but have now decided to opt again for separates .

I have separates at the moment, but there getting on in age,and have been atticified for about a year .

I have send the Cambridge audio range in richer sounds .

My budget is £300 for an amp and cd player,I will using my gales 3010s which are connected to my av amp .will just run an extra set of cables using banana plugs,

The cd and amp are topaz am10 and Topaz cd5 v4

Yout thoughts please

Thank you

The CD5v4 is OK. Our record department uses one and it does a decent enough job. I'd avoid the AM10 though. Channel balance at low volume levels is atrocious on them and I think you could do better.

See if anybody still has stock of the outgoing Denon DCD510AE and PMA510AE or, if you can stretch slightly, the new PMA520AE and DCD520AE would be better than the Cambridge options you suggest.

The second hand market would yield better results. Your budget would buy you any number of good combinations, and this is the route I would take in your situation.

Thank you for the advice, will have a look at the models you suggest .the reason for the Cambridge was due to some positive reviews ,and I only buy from richer sounds or John Lewis,so slightly limited .

Im not to keen on second hand, would prefer new .

If I cannot locate the seperates you state, what would you buy from richer sounds that's within my budget .

Thanks

Are you looking to buy new or second hand? Because £300 is the kind of budget where you can do really well with if you play around on ebay for a while.

Ah, apologies, I must have clicked reply just before you sent the thing about not wanting second hand . .

At Richer Sounds I'd suggest the following:

Amps-

Onkyo A9155 £139.95

Marantz PM5004 £149.95

Would also be worth investigating the new Pioneer A-20 at £199.95 (not heard it but it should be pretty good)

CD-

Onkyo DX7355 £139.95 (superb player and a bargain at the price. My Dad has one of those and it really is good)

Marantz CD5004 £169.95

Yamaha CD-S300 £179.95

IMO any of these will be better than the budget Cambridge stuff - there is a big performance gap between the Topaz range and the Azur range. If you really want CA go that bit further and get the 350A amp and 350C CD player - a superb combination for the money.

A big thank you to you all for the help.will be popping into richer sounds, will have a proper look at the models mentioned, and maybe a few more.getting very excited lol

Cheers
