Hi there, would like to buy a decent set of phones for my noggin!!

Currently running a pair of Senheisser cx300 II on my ipod touch 32gb. They are great, however think i can do better with sq and all my tunes are apple lossless. Listen to music a lot in bed and when travelling etc. Not worried about noise cancelling. Looking at over ears as they seem to offer what i am looking for (can use the buds for mtb etc) A bit worried about sweaty ears if i fall asleep with them on in bed (headphones that is....) Looked at the Audio Technica ATH-A500, Audio Technica ATH-AD700 and the Grado SR80i. The Grados could be leaky and bug my wife a bit??!!

Are these all overkill for an ipod??

Any tips or advice on other models??

Grado SR80i sound fantastic with an iPod Touch and are therefore not overkill, but...they're going to bug your wife more than a bit, so I'd rule them out if that worries you.

Can't speak for the others you mention, though Sennheiser do a lot of closed back over-ears, like the HD380.

Thanks JD will have a look into the Sennheisers... Was listening to my headphones last night and they are starting to sound a little crackly. They are going to have to go!! Quite like the Beats by Dre studio although the price tag maybe a bit of a problem.... In terms of sound quality is there a rule over which gives better sq on ear or over ear??? Thanks.

I have numerous sets of headphones and earphones varying in price, type and brand. The AD700 are fantastic IMO, but equally good (partly due to price) are the Goldring NS1000's. I tend to use these cans in bed because they're small enough to rest your head on a pillow whilst allowing for small movements. They are also outdoor / commuting friendly unlike the big cans. Also, for what it's worth, I prefer these without no ice cancellation on.John

Thanks SnowyJohn, Had a look at the goldrings they look great!! Seem a bit of a bargain too!! In terms of out and out performance with music which in your opinion would you use for the best music performance. The Goldrings certainly look smaller units than the Audio technica. The pillow test is also a factor too. I dont listen to music very loud in bed, but as you say you can fall asleep with the Goldrings in bed. Can the same not be said of the Audio technicas?? I want best music performance!! How much bigger are the AT's over the Goldrings???

Thanks for your help!!
