Hello everyone,

My faithful Sennheiser CX 300 MK2 earphones finally gave up the ghost yesterday and have fallen apart at the jack meaning a new pair of earphones are needed asap so I'm after your help deciding what level of earphones would be best given my device please.

I copy my music over in Flac so it's not as if I'm using MP3 files but due to the phone having just 16gb of storage and no ability to add to that I don't use WAV due to the file sizes involved plus you get album artwork with Flac. I've been thinking of getting a pair of earphones that are a genuine upgrade over my Sennheisers so have the Beyerdnamic DTX and MMX 101ie in mind along with the Sony XBA-2iP and 3iP.

What would be the best fit for my phone and file type? Would the Sonys be overkill or worth the extra cash over the Beyerdynamics?

Any other suggestions are welcome but £100 is my budget although for the right earphones I would push it to £150 which is what I have seen the Sony XBA-3iP earphones for on Amazon. Many thanks.

That's a lot of money for relatively flimsy, short-lived IEMs. I would stick to Beyerdnamic DTX, personally.

I've got this. Excellent for the money::

Also got this which is brilliant:

Another option, slightly over budget:

Hi BB

The reviews suggest that the remote and mic only work for Apple brands.
Could you confirm that they work with the Nexus 4 as I'm trying to find some that do.

Thanks

Nocs NS800 (the last link) is actually cheaper when bought from other sellers, including Amazon. So well within your budget.

Many thanks bigboss for the suggestions.

All you have done is muddy the waters further though...I have to admit to not knowing a thing about any of those earphones you linked to so will need to do some research to see if I can find some reviews. Like Xanderzdad though I would really like some phones whose mic and remote work with my Nexus 4 which is why I chose the Beyerdynamic and Sony options as I know these work with Android phones, if any of your suggestions do though then it's going to be a very difficult choice :?

All of the earphones on my list do support the Nexus 4 phone so both pairs of Beyerdynamic and both pairs of the Sony XBA but the model number has to end in an i in the case of the Sonys as the models without it don't carry the mic and remote. Hope that helps but hopefully bigboss will confirm if his suggestions support the Nexus 4 soon although that's just going to make my choice even more difficult.

I originally bought Nocs NS400 for my wife's iPhone 4S. Not used it since she upgraded to Nexus 4. She uses Thinksound TS02 now. Just checked Nocs with Nexus 4. Mic definitely works, and the centre button mutes the mic. When listening to music, the centre button pauses the song, but the volume button doesn't work.

Thinksound works well.

Thanks BB & Oldboy

Must admit that playing music on the iPhone was easier than on the Nexus - but I still prefer my Nexus
