After many years I'm starting to get involved with my vinyl again. I have a Thorens TD145 turntable with a Ortofon VMS30E II cartridge. It's been around a bit and I have put a new belt and the turntable is fine. I have two choices now, a replacement stylus, or a new cartridge ( I'm not the Hi-fi nut I was so would not like to spend more than £100. I have seen some compatible stylus for the ortofon for about £20. Has anyone any experiences of these as they are a lot cheaper than the ortofon. I dont mind paying for the original if it is noticibly better. Bear in mind I'm a young 68 so my hearing is not as sharp as it was. My current set up still works OK bit I think I'm not quite getting the detail I did

Been there with a replacement for my old Shure cart - sounded horrible, and ended up giving up and buying a Denon DL-110 for £60. But don't do this if your Thorens has a steel platter, as MCs have an issue for magnetic reasons...
