Hi all,
Having just got my new Panasonic 37LZD80 TV I'm about to have Sky+ HD installed.

A few questions please.......

Is it possible to get a high quality satellite cable which runs  from the dish, rather than what the engineer uses, which I'm sure must be the cheapest they can get at the time?

Also want to get the most from the mains feed.
Seem to be loads of upgrade mains cables about but most of my equipment have mains leads that are sealed in to the unit. These being the TV and Amp.
The other two are figure of 8 leads but have not seen an upgrade version of them.

Would I get the same benefit by using an upgrade mains block?

Actually it isn't... The cable used is good quality 75ohm double screened cable meant for digital/satellite installations approved by the CAI and sky.

The cable is usually either wf65(made by webro) which is siamese/twin cable used for short twin runs for sky+/hd and freesat pvr installation's.

Or WF100(again made by webro) or could be ct100/pf100/hf100 depending on manufacturer but the same spec which is a slightly thicker cable than the wf65 and is available in single and twin/siamese configurations usually used on single runs or long twin runs.

But if you feel the need to improve on that then the likes of QED and other hi-fi cable manufactures make co-axial aerial/sat cables...... QED's QX100 available here, and more cables here

I use wf125 double shielded, had to buy a 200mtr drum of it from Farnells as it not used by most installers due to its cost.

Dave - how rubbish is the HDMI cable standard with the HD box - I got mine set up last Friday (well impressed - guy said cable supplied was 'ok'). Don't want to waste money on a placebo upgrade. Any thoughts please? Cheers.

Any thoughts please? Cheers. It seem's to vary somewhat, personally i think the manufacturer's just supply what ever they can get hold of at the time for as cheap as possible! But tbh I'd change it to something like the QED HDMI-P at £25 if your sceptical. But i'm sure someone will be along to tell you it makes no difference as it's "digital"

Personally have found no noticeable benefits with high quality HDMI leads (and I have two of them on my system).

Whilst they do offer shielding, good management of the runs along with Mains conditioning nullify any benefits.

It came and it's on. Need to do some viewing to test. Shame I can't flick A/B. It's nice and thick though! And a bonny colour!

I'm turning into a girl!

By the way it was £25 plus p&p of a fiver. The link has gone up to £44 - something of a saving.

Thanks for the heads up Dave.
