Yes I have a Facebook account, but no I don't want everything I've been listening to posted up on there. So I've always been careful to ensure that "Show what I listen to on Facebook" is un-checked in Spotify's preferences. However having just gone onto Facebook for the first time in a few days, I see that one of Spotify's recent updates has sneakily re-enabled that option behind my back. :shame:

Just thought I'd post this as a warning to anyone who uses both Spotify and Facebook but who likes to keep the two separate. Of course if you've been a Spotify user from the days before it forced you to join through Facebook, this probably won't affect you.

Well, its self promotion isn't it? How many members do Spotify have?

I don't know, but most of them will be on Facebook, so if they sneak through one post from all their members, they're looking at an "advertisement" to about 100-1,000 non Spotify members per Spotify member (if you know what I mean). This self promotion is free, and that sort of coverage would cost a fair amount.

chances are, no one will close their Spotify account because of it, but even if they lose a few hundred, they may gain a few thousand in new members.

Agreed, it's obviously been done for a bit of cheap self-promotion, hoping that a few more people like me won't notice that the option has been sneakily re-enabled behind their backs. It's easy to turn the option off again. In my case they've already succeeded in their aim: I've already given them a bit of free publicity before I noticed.
