I'm looking for an NAS to pair up with a Sonos system.
I've got it down to a choice of two, the Buffalo Terastation, and the Synology DS211J. It looks as though the Synology is more versatile, allowing me to access files from outside the home. Does this mean opening up my home network ports to hacking? Does anyone know how it protects itself?

I publish my photos on my NAS. If your router has no built in security features and just allows pass through on certain ports you need to ensure passwords for any admin priviledge accounts on your NAS are very secure,

Thanks. I'll look into the security on my router - looks like it should be possible though.
