Denon have upgraded their excellent AVC-A1HD amplifier and are calling the new version the
AVC-A1HD

My supplier is claiming that there has been no change to the description on the actual unit, but that all they have done is add an A to the cardboard packaging and so wants to charge me the higher price for the new version.

This does sound a little strange to me.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The A has the latest firmware and Dolby Volume feature. The harware is the same. The "A" is meant to reflect the fact that the bugs and issues found in the first few months should have been ironed out.

The "A" replaced the non A as simply the correct version with less flaws. Don't pay more. But don't buy the non-A version. Prices may have gone up regardless, with the exchange rate.
