As regads SS amps need warming up, well that's like reviewers/manufactuers stating that when you switch off the display on a CDP it improves the sound. It is so negligible it ain't worth the keyboard tapping.

First heard a valve amp way back in the mid-70s, when my cousin had one. Don't even try and ask what make it was, genuinely can't remeber.

As I mentioned before there's been many valve or WWII tube :bounce: amps I've heard. Some left me with a positive mark, others didn't.

What on Earth do your cousin's 1970s hi-fis and World War II have to do with this?

When he said "I have no idea how long it takes to warm up..." and the WWII thing comes from when Floydie, before Xmas, said, in relation to valve amps (paraphrasing) "surprised you haven't mentioned that valves were used during the war..."

Why? because I said that a SS amp doesn't need warming up? Or because I compared that statement with a CDP display? These are personal observations, and ones I've tested at home, and on both accounts it is minimal.

I'm just dismayed how SS amps can be dismissed the valve brigade. I've been complimentary of valve amps, only pointing out the practical issues.

Strange, Cno, when you replied to the strengths and weakenesses of valve amps, you put "bass not as controlled... proned to overheating.... need careful speaker matching.... blah blah.

Pretty much as I've said, yet no-one clobbers you.
