How can the D3020 be as small as it is vs regular sized amps yet pack so many features in? Is it just engineered very well or does it have to be making sonic compromises to acheive it's smaller size?

Perhaps full sized amps are just sticking to a tradtional HIFI sizing and are literally just cases full of hot air! How did others find the D3020 stacks up performance wise vs other amps? It's my first proper amp so haven't really listened to other options yet.

Any thoughts?

That's the advantage of class D or "digital" amplification. Less heat and being able to generate more power with less size. It's not as if the NAD is the first to do this. Different types of amplification all have their own characteristics, so it's not as if most amps, which use class A/B, are being made big just for the sake of it.

THere are distinct SQ compromises when components are tightly packaged together, regardless of class type of amp.

The Naim amp photographed is a prime example of high quality components given space to work with less neighbouring interference.

The NAD is a reasonable amp, but we all know why this "owned" brand is getting so many accolades.
