Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if this is blindingly obvious / stupid. I'm relatively new to hifi seperates so am still finding my feet.

I've recently bought an NAD 3020e off Ebay and have come across some stuff online which suggests the pre-amp stage is seperated from the amp and can be ran directly into another amplifier? I can see pre-amp output jacks on the original 3020 but the 3020e doesn't appear to be setup the same.

Ideally speaking, I want to run a Technics 1210 into the NAD pre-amp and then run into a Pioneer amp.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

To use the phono stage of the NAD into a Pioneer amp with its own volume control? ie A Pioneer integrated amp, not a power amp? If so, simple: just connect from the tape out on the NAD to any spare line-in (CD, aux, tuner, etc) on the Pioneer.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply!

It looks like the signal from the Tape Out is just a re-routed input signal from the 1210 which bypasses both the Pre-Amp and Amp stages of the NAD, so doesn't look like that's going to work.

At the moment, it appears to be either a matter of getting handy with a soldering iron and intercepting the signal between Pre-Amp and Amp then wiring in two RCA plugs or finding a solid amp switcher that will allow me to have two amps connected to a single speaker set at once. Aside from a few positive reports, I'm seriously dubious about the latter option.

Not at all sure what you're trying to do here: the tape out takes the signal after the phono preamp and source selection of the NAD, but before the volume control, so it's a fixed level signal. Are you trying to have two volume controls in the signal chain? I'm rather baffled.

Apologies, I'm probably not explaining myself very well.

I'm trying to use the NAD as a pre-amp for a turntable, then run it into my Pioneer integrated amp.

I'd been lead to believe (elsewhere admittedly!) that the Tape Out would bypass the pre-amp stage of the NAD entirely and basically just re-route the input from the turntable directly to the tape out without any effect on the signal whatsoever.

If you're right (which I really hope you are!) would the tape-out include or bypass the bass, mid & treble?

Thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated!

Ah, as I thought.

No, the tape out is tapped off after the phono preamp/equaliser and the main source selector: it was designed to allow any of the input sources (including a turntable) to be recorded, so will do exactly what you want it to.

Yes, the tape out is taken before the tone, balance and volume controls.
