Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a decent bedside radio/clock which has decent sound, but I'm not sure which one to buy. I've been looking at the Bose Wave radio system, but it's just a bit too expensive - please advise me on one to ask for!

Cheers,

Hughes.

Well that's fortunate as the Bose is a waste of money!

The BOSE is absolute rubbish! I wonder how they even sell these! Have you not considered Denon's new DENON DM37DAB MICRO SYSTEM? Alternatively you can get a used Onkyo 515 etc on E-bay for much less.

And don't get the Onkyo, the display will keep you awake

Oh, sorry - you're looking for a radio/clock. Kindly ignore what I said earlier. There are loads of radio/clocks on E-bay, so do have a look.

I'd go for the Pure Chronos ll in silver - cheapest I found them is on ebay, selling for £49.95 plus £3.99 delivery.

Job done then. Though black is cooler....

JohnDuncan:Mine is a Pure Chronos, the CD one, and it sounds fine. They do an iPod dock one as well.

Course, if the Pure Evoke Flow has an alarm clock in it........
The Pure Evoke Flow does indeed have an alarm clock in it. And a Kitchen Timer apparently (just looking through the menus!).

Would I be throwing a spanner in the works, if I said that my parents have the Pure Chronos Ipod and that I would like something else, just for a change? Nice suggestion though - but the sound quality leaves alot to be desired in my opinion.

Heres mine, if i'm being honest it's probably not what your looking for but it does have all the functions I require in an alarm clock. My alarm clock! Not sure it would fill you with joy opening it up on christmas day though.

Don't you have an Arcam A38 in your bedroom????? Why not just have an alarm clock that say.... buzzes? Then your prim ears won't be offended by poor sound quality?

We use a Pure Bug Too. Absolutely no complaints and the sound is very good for what it is.

I'd always stick to Pure or Roberts for clock radios, although some of the better Sony ones are quite nice too.

JohnDuncan:Here you go - plug a tuner into this
That's exactly what I was going to suggest! A long time ago when I was a wee nipper, I had some Technics power gizmo with a clock - you had to rewire all your plugs into it's special plug format, then plug them into the Technics unit and then just set the alarm. At the designated time, your entire Hi-Fi switched on - if you set your CD player up to play on power on, Robert was literally your mother's brother.
Of course, this was in the day before moulded plugs were required by law - these days you'd have to cut the moulded plug off all your Hi-Fi appliances for this to work...

I usually rely on static coming from the clock radio to wake me up. Anything coherent I can sleep through, it's got to be blaring loud static. I used to use a Korean Language station but they've gone off the air.

Yeah, I'll just get a timer and shove it on the A38 and the Rotel - job done, huh?
