Hey all,

Just bought a house, here is the picture of the lounge:

I was thinking of filling in the fireplace/mantel piece and get a bracket to mount the TV. Anyone can think of a better or best layout for home cinema? Currently just got one 3 seater leather sofa. Imagine the room empty.

Not sure where to run the wires or have the amp etc..

heres a floorplan.

There are few ways to plan your home cinema system. My lounge's layout is similar to yours. Check my home cinema pics (click on "My Home Cinema" in my signature.

The TV is placed a little on the high side. If you're planning to fill the fireplace, you could remove the mantle to lower the TV, & put some shelves in the fireplace space for your AV equipment. Or you could buy an AV rack to place it in the side of the fireplace, like this:

Or you could cover everything up & simply place the TV on a TV rack with AV equipment underneath it, like this:

Let me know what you think & I'll help you further.

Is the door at the top left from lounge to hallway still there, I cannot see it in your room photo.

I would agree with Bigboss that the TV would be too high I have a similar problem. It would be ideal budget alowing etc if the fireplace could go, maybe one of the new wall mounted fires instead.

Hi bigboss and mic,

thanks for the responses, I think I will be filling in the fireplace, and get a builder in the take the mantle piece off. I will then wall mount the TV ( not sure the perfect height for this to be)

Then I reckon i will put my current alphson unit (http://www.big-av.co.uk/acatalog/alphason-abk1100-3GR.html) in the top left where theirs currently is to use as my Av receivers and sky etc..

This then leaves my 1 sofa directly in front of the TV,then need to find where to put the sub and two rear speakers (would need to run the cable round)

And Mike yes the door is still there.

Depending upon budget I would remove the fire place but enlarge the hole in the breast and stick a couple of shelves in and put the gear in there. You can then keep all cables out of sight and those going to the TV can be connected through a hole drilled through behind the TV. Will free up space either side then.

(Hope this makes sense.)
