Have you considered moving the centre speaker up a bit so that it's closer to the screen?

Phew! What a day it has been! Managed to complete all wiring and electrics today. The builder was going to board it all out and plaster it today. But they were there in the afternoon and the first fix wasn't complete yet. The plasterer is going away tomorrow to get married.

So we decided to continue in January. Hopefully I'll have my dream system by the end of January. There was no point in trying to rush and getting it wrong.

Secured January dates from all concerned. If things go as per plan, the home cinema should be ready by 19th January.

Unable to post pics as broadband not started yet despite securing installation date of 19th December, thanks to BT's cockup. *WALL*

Thanks El Hefe!

First fix officially completed yesterday. All cables in. The installer even put the screen up and operated it! Had to take the screen down afterwards.

The builder and the plasterer completed the box ceiling today, and even put a box up made from MDF for the projector.

The oak flooring isn't in a great shape after all that plaster. Hope it cleans up easily enough.

The screen, lights and speakers will be installed next Thursday, followed by painting and decorating on Friday.

The cabinets will go in on the 19th, along with mounting the TV and completing the installation. :)

Hi BigBoss,

I'm new to all this and basically I'm looking at building an extension, roughly 5m x 5m. I was looking at the KEF T305, MA Soundframes and then moved onto the KEF Ci range and now onto the MA WT range as I delved deeper into the speaker world. Did you consider any of the ones I mentioned and if so why you ended up with the WT range? I heard a demo of the KEF T205 and the rear speakers were struggling as I asked the sales guy to crank it up. I think the T305 may do the job, but would like to play it safe and get it right 1st time. I'm guessing you've done your homework and basically trying to save myself some time as I really don't know much about speakers !!

One problem I have is that the projector will come down in front of bi-fold doors and I will have to house the centre speaker in a coffee table of some sort and the KEF Ci380QT would solve this problem but I'm not sure how it would sound firing down from the ceiling.

Any input and advice on how you came to choose your speakers would be most appreciated, and I will follow your build to see how your system comes along !!!

Hi Jigsaw, welcome to the forum!

I was not interested in Kef T305 as I'm a fan of Monitor Audio. I've had the Radius HD series for more than 5 years and couldn't be happier. The Trimless 200 is based on the Silver range which I demoed and loved. Demoing in wall and in ceiling speakers is quite difficult.

I have demoed the Kef Ci series though (380QT), and was strongly considering it. I had previously planned to buy another house where there was no space for the centre speaker. To be honest, I wasn't impressed at all. It struggled with clarity. Unfortunately there's nothing else I found offering similar function. If you're around Leeds, Finite Solutions have it on demo.

Where is the projector screen? In front of the bifold doors? Can you post some pictures?

This is my mockup of the planned extension. Room measurements are pretty accurate apart from the sofa etc. First and foremost, this is a family room, the cinema is a bonus. I know lighting will be a issue so a normal old TV is there for day time use. Having read your threads, i also know the sofa may not be in the ideal position. I think I've shortlisted down to KEF T305 Monitor Audio Sound frame and Monitor Audio WTxxx. Did you consider the sound frames? apart from price do you know if there is much difference in performance? I've not decided on projector or srceen yet, but SSAV are doing the Denon x4100 cheap.

SoundFrames are astonishing for their size when I demoed them. I can't comment on comparison performance as I haven't heard my WT speakers yet. You'll have to wait 2 weeks for that, when my system will be ready.

With regards to the surround speakers, if you move the right speaker towards the other end of your sofa, it will encompass everyone sitting in the corner sofa.

That room will be quite bright. I would recommend Draper ReAct 2.1 screen which is ideal for bright rooms as it rejects ambient light.

What's your budget for the projector? I've bought the Sony HW40ES, which is the best sub £2000 projector currently available.

Technically I see what you mean about moving the right surround speaker, but I'm not sure it'll "look" right. I'm not overly fussed about it as I definately know which seat i will be on.

I'm afraid the speakers are the only things we have in common, Projector I'm hoping to spend 1k, sub, i was recommended the REL Acoustics S2 and screen no idea yet. Feel free to give me your recommendations though....

Realistically, I am only going to be using the setup in the evenings due to the light and am happy to do so. Thats why i have a 10+ year old Sony LCD in there !! I'll have a look at the sub and screen you mentioned tonight but the proector is out of my price range and I think the screen will be too.

In the meantime, if you could hurry up with your setup please *biggrin*

Finally the dream is becoming a reality. Happy for you BB. Looking at the pics, even distorted as they are, things look a litte bigger (space) than I imagined. I hope it all goes swimmingly and you have your first Atmos home viewing by the end of Feb or before.

GP

Actually, my first Atmos viewing should be next week! :)

Screen has been installed, cut-outs for speakers already made, most lights in, ceiling already painted.

All installation should be complete on Monday. The room will be painted and the floor re-oiled on Tuesday. We'll move the sofas into the room on Wednesday.

I'll then calibrate the audio on my Marantz on Wednesday.

How are you getting on with your TV, BB? How's the Oppo Blu-Ray player too?

The cabinets have been installed yesterday. Looking very good!

The screen drops down perfectly and ends where I want it to end! Also, the installation has been perfect as the screen is only 1.5cm clear from the cabinet on either side.

I will wait until the screen gets acclimatised to the room before attempting tensioning. I'll do that next month.

Also, the 4 ceiling speakers and 4 wall speakers (surrounds) have been installed. The final bit of the home cinema installation will be completed tomorrow. The room is being painted as we speak, and the floor will be re-oiled this afternoon.

I've only watched a couple of movies on the Oppo on a 32 inch screen so far, so too early to comment.
