My blu-ray player has broke! Help!

Player has broke so now I need a new one but...

Do I

Buy a 4K player (I don't have a 4K TV though)

Buy a 4K upscaling player

Buy a regular 1080p player

Question -
What would happen if I combined my TV with the new Panasonic 4K player? No effect from HDR or 4K?

1) No, don't buy a 4K player yet. Prices are sky high currently, they will come down when you're ready to upgrade to 4K.

2) 4K upscaling player isn't needed, as 4K TVs are brilliant upscalers themselves.

3) Yes, just get a 1080p player.

4) Nothing will happen. No effect from HDR or 4K, your TV isn't capable of displaying them.

Can you estimate when prices of 4K players will come down to around £100? Bit of a silly q but you seem very knowledgable in Tech in general from your other posts too!

It'll be 2018/at least for 4K players to come down to £100. You should see players for £250-300 by this Christmas, and £150-200 next year.

All 4K TVs upscale. Upscaling does not mean quality somehow improves. A 4K TV has 4 times the number of pixels of a 1080p TV. If the TV doesn't upscale, the picture of a 1080p source will only occupy central 25% of the screen. The upscaling algorithm multiplies this image 4 times to fill the screen.

that's why the big boss never smiles..he knows stuff..people who know stuff never smile! Knowing stuff is a serious matter! I'm always smiling because I know nothing..my father was the village idiot! But the bosses..the big bosses they keep us in check..with bountiful knowledge gleaned from years of experience...I think the big boss and big Bernard are the bestest people on this forum by a chalk of long...
