Surf Matt:
Love Leftfield, Chemical Bros, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation, most Faithless and the like but looking for new stuff - any suggestions from the wise sages of this board?

Mellowish with deep bass preferred.

That is exactly what I like

A few listening suggestions:

Hospital records are always top notch try the Out-Patient compilations if your not too keen on drum and bass. Good podcasts on the website

Stereotyp first album is quite unbelievable Austrian dub with brilliant guest MC's

Basic Channel and Rythym & Sound labels

Ladytron

Dalek VERY dark techno hip-hop and isn't everybody's cup of tea but worth sticking with

Compost Records

Disco Not Disco compilation

Karaoke Kalk label

Mouse On Mars - Rost Pocks: The EP Collection

Thom Yorke - The Eraser and the remix album which includes excellent remixes including a Burial remix

First five Simple Minds albums are brilliant (don't mock people just listen)

Will check all these out when I can - new baby boy (1 week old) means loud Dub blasting is a little off at the moment - but not for long!

what an awesome thread, thanks for the music ideas all, Octopo expecially

@Surf Matt get some good closed headphones, have one boy and another on the way, headphones are good for late evening listening... not the same I've found, but better than nothingÿ

Gavin - could be a good plan. Luckily the house is pretty big so can blast music at one end and have peace at the other. Use dub type music when doing my home weights (2-3 times a week) - really helps motivate me.

Having said that I'm ruined from waterskiing (got a little boat) on Sunday - arms still half destroyed!

That album is quite amazing - it sort of gets under your skin and you have to keep on playing it - kind of addictive.

Be keen to hear what you think when you get it - like Octopo, I think "Etched Headplate" is my favourite track followed by "Near Dark"

Did a year in London's Docklands - the album reminds me of the dark side of London SO much - but in a kind of fascinating way. Often drove back late from Cornwall - this album reminds me of that drive very much for some reason.

Anyway, enough blathering on - enjoy!

You'll like Fluke.

Also, UNKLE's Edit Music for a film album/track is great on two levels. First, enjoying the music, second, trying to work out where all the quotes and soundbites come from...

if you're liking Burial, then here's a few other names worth checking out... Martyn, Kode 9, 2562, Appleblim, Shackleton...

and on the dubby techno side of things all the Deepchord stuff. the recent album is called 'The Coldest Season'.

And a masterpiece it is too. Though an acquired taste.ÿ
Anybody giving it a listen on Napster should, try "Sunset" for an example of it's magisterial spatiality.

My Sound by Stereotyp an absoute classic released in 2002 on the G-Stone label (all Burial fans seek this album out I would be very surprised if Burial hasn't had this album on repeat since it's release)

The Streets' first album is still brilliant and reminds us of just how good Mike Skinner can be.

Rythym & Sounds' first album very very laid back tech dub - not to everyones taste but once it hooks you that's it

Encounters by Sofa Surfers very dark Hip Hop/Dub from an actual real live band from Germany this makes a BIG difference in the sound

Out Patients Volume 1-3 from the geniuses at Hospital Records - a mixed bag of styles on these albums but quite brilliant

I can confirm the new album by Distance, "Repercussions" is a big step on from his last album in massive industrial dubbyness.

Dance stuff? System 7 - their Tokyo Transmissions disc is well worth a listen. Combines genuine old school with more recent influences. Hillage and Giraudy still churning out the tunes!

Finally got Warp technique - ÿ"Make Animals Happy" after a couple of weeks wait on delivery. Had it on for ten minutes and first conclusions are it was worth the wait.

check out '70 minutes of madness' by coldcut, amazing mix. also kid koala's album 'some of my best friends are dj's'.

living in brighton for last two years and music scene there at the moment is incredible. ahh i can't leave this post without posting this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_WlJDjO1-U . Just can't stop listening to it, well worth a listen.

Stuff on finger lickin' records, ninja tune and tru thoughts records. all good.

Heard UNN when a friend was djing at a bar last weekend. Just picked up 'Exits' tonight. First impressions are kind of a bit psytrance though very euphonic. A bit like Jon Hopkins' new album.

Hi,

On the Basic Channel / Deepchord related tip, you may be interested in downloading this free mix by Steven Hitchell of Deepchord, CV313, Soultek etc. It will give you a good feel for the type of sound, as it includes tracks by Maurizio, Rhythm & Sound and DeepChord, as well as including the classis Starlight by Model 500.

The download link and track list are at the bottom of this page;

http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/talking-shopcast-with-echospace-detroit/

I've just picked up Soultek's "The Seduction of Silence" CD that's mentioned in the interview on that page, and it's on a very good Rhythm & Sound dubby kind of tip. One of the tracks features Tikiman, who has made some great tracks working with Rhythm & Sound and Stereotyp.

Hope you find something you like in there.

BTW: I have nothing to do with any of the artists mentioned (I wish I did!), I'm just really into this sound ;-)

sImon
