Is probably the reason, although it probably sounds better now with the DAC than before without it?
I was quite shocked when I borrowed a Dragonfly DAC from my neighbour to try how much difference it made with my laptop, I've also tried USB to Topping E30 to stereo and again that's a big improvement. Most PC's / Laptops are made to a budget and they don't put expensive soundcards in them so more often than not any alternative is an improvement .
