I'm buying a turntable, amp and speakers (Rega Planar 1, Onkyo A9010 and Q-Acoustic 3020s) but I would like to be able to use the speakers easily with other sources like my Mac and Audio Interface for Music Recording. Can anyone reccomend a device that will allow me to easily switch between the sources without re-wiring everytime, or is this an unrealistic expectation?

Onkyo in the UK has no digital inputs but is a really good sounding amp. I've had one myself. Yes it will do what you want it to. As your interface should have analogue outs.

What I'd say is please audition as I didn't like QAcoustics paired with Onkyo. It's quite personal so you might like this combo.

So is there no direct way to play music off a mac or phone? What would you suggest to get around this.

I'm heading down to the store next weekend to audition the Planar 1 and Onkyo A9010 with Q Acoustic 3020s vs Wharfedale 220s vs Dali Spektor 2 and potentially trying out Monitor Audio Bronze 2s. Hopefully there will be a combo I like

I expect the store will be able to offer options, but to suggest a couple you could take a look at the Chromecast Audio, to which you can 'cast' various sources, and the Audioquest Dragonfly series, a mini-DAC which turns your Mac's output (if it has a USB output, and if not I think there's a converter) into an analogue signal suitable for headphones or the amp.

Nice choice there. Yes you can connect a phone or a mac directly via analogue connections. It wouldn't give you the best quality as individual DACs in these devices would be a limiting factor.

Just to confirm are you in the UK or somewhere in Europe? UK version of A9010 doesn't have digital inputs but European does.

If your mac has an optical output that will work into a dac then amp. In your budget range and for purposes required it might be worth while looking at an amp with a built in dac such as the marantz pm6006. It's a little more expensive but has 2 opticlas and one coaxial in, and sounds great with q acoustics in my opinion.

However, the audioquest dragonfly as mentioned above (black one is only 90 pounds or so) will allow phones and computers to send music via usb to a line input whichever amp you buy
