Hi there,

I'm looking for some advice on which multi region blu ray player I should buy. I just recently found out the the PS3 is not region free and that there is no way to make it region free so Seasons 3 and 4 from my recently purchased Lost the Complete Collection (Blu Ray) do not work as they are region locked to Region A.

Can you tell me which is the best region free player for about £200/£250? I saw a nice Denon for £199 but also a Sony which read like it was just as good for £129.

Thanks for you advice

Spenny

The Denon & Sony players you're mentioning are multiregion only for DVDs & not blu-ray discs.

If you want a player zone free for blu-rays, you're looking at spending at least £350-400. It's cheaper to buy Lost complete collection locked to Zone B instead.

Check this & this.

Aw right I see, cheers mate. I've had a look for a European Lost Complete Collection but can only find it in the US?

Thanks guys, I think I've found one!

I've been looking around and found the this - http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Sony-BDP-S570/ - which won product of the year - with both multi region blu ray and multi region DVD for £400, do you reckon that's a good deal?

Cheers

He means this.

I don't think it's worth spending £200 extra just for blu-ray multiregion.

Yeah that's the one bigboss, I got it from the link you sent posted above that's why I thought it was a good deal?? Do you think I should go for the Panasonic?

It depends. If you can see yourself ordering lots of Region A locked releases in the future, then yes, it's probably worth it. Personally, I don't see the need for this as it's not anywhere near as bad as it was on the original Region 1 vs Region 2 DVD releases. As a general rule, the UK versions are pretty much identical to the US versions nowadays (with the occasional exception), and quite a few US Blu-Ray releases are region free anyway, so will play on your UK player. So if it's just for the Lost Blu-Rays, I'd buy the UK version I've linked above and sell off the US version on eBay.

I'm sure I've read somewhere of people that have had multi region BD players that lost the multi region capability after the first update.
