multi-channel input/output

Please can someone confirm something for me!

I currently have a Denon AVR-1707 av receiver with a 60gb PS3 running my dvd/blueray etc. I believe from the reviews that if i was to get the new Panasonic DMP-BD55 blueray player, that i could run its multichannel output into the input of my reciever and would get the full HD codecs avalible. Is this the case because my reciever only has the normal surround formats ie Dolby digital EX / DTS and no HDMi inputs. Would my reciever display it as PCM? Forgive me for being a little ignorant as i thought i was on the ball with the latest audio etc, but i have had a lot of different views on the best way to go, to upgrade to HD audio formats without spending a fortune!

correct.

but be aware they may be hard to find as it has been discontinued, but there are others out there which will do the same.

Like the Sony 550, which is sold at a great price at prcdirect.
