Hello, I've got a Samsung SMT-S7800 which I bought "as new" second-hand on eBay. It's been great for about 6 months, but now the library has disappeared!

I use a Logitech remote - when I press "Library" it takes me to the Library screen but it doesn't show any content - it looks as if it's empty. I've checked the hard-drive and it's 35% full, so obviously the content is there, it's just not visible.

In checking a few times last night it flashed up with all my content for about a second and then it all disappeared again.

I've checked the firmware (all up-to-date), so it's very frustrating. Anyone else had (and solved!) this issue?

I'd prefer not to reformat the HDD as I'm going to lose everything!

thanks

This is a common bug with this machine. Some machines seem to suffer it more than others. I have had it once since I got the box in Feb this year.

You need to do a factory reset. This will wipe any planned recordings so make a note of any before you do it. If you have edited your channels (for example, to get rid of all the shopping and porn) then you will also have to do this again after the factory reset.

thanks for the advice!

I don't mind re-setting my recordings for Match of the Day and Big Barn Farm, but will it retrieve previously recorded material?

Also - how do you "hide" channels on the Samsung. I know you can block access to them (but they still show up on my epg or while channel surfing, but aren't accessible). I loved that on Humax I could just hide things like shopping channels entirely.

thanks again.

Sorry, should have added to click on the 'Firmware' tab once you go to the link.

You can always try and update the software through the box ( see page 59 of manual) rather than using the USB route outlined in that link.

Big Aura,

no recordings will be lost. To remove channels you don't want to appear see page 37 of the manual.

It also seems that there is a new and long awaited firmware update (V6.0.376) for this box which, hopefully, will mean this 'disappearing library' bug.

thanks - I think I tried that already, and it only "locked" the channels. What I was trying to do was (as I could with my old Humax) hide the channel entirely, i.e. when I'm scrolling through the channels "hidden" channels wouldn't show up at all (rather than show up and be inaccessible). It may be a "first world problem", but I'd sooner not have to scroll through BET, CBS, C5 and the horror channel en route to Film 4!

Will check it again when I get home, in case I've incorrectly recalled.

thanks

You can certainly hide channels - I have done it for all the shopping channels etc. I will have a look when I get home and note down what I did to achieve it and post it up later.

To delete channels you don't want.

Go to any channel.

Press 'OK' on remote.

Sidebar showing all channels will appear.

Scroll through this list until you highlight a channel you want to delete.

Press 'Tools'

Press 'Delete Service'

Press 'OK'

And then 'OK' again when prompted if you really want to delete the channel.

You cannot do this en masse - only one channel at a time.
